Metal Pigments & Powders
Zinc flake is a lamellar (flake-shaped) zinc pigment produced from high-purity zinc ingots (>99.99%) through atomization of molten zinc, followed by wet ball milling, vacuum drying, and polishing. The unique flake geometry provides a high specific surface area and excellent barrier protection properties. When applied as a coating, zinc flakes overlap to form a dense, conductive layer that provides cathodic corrosion protection to steel substrates, even in thin films. Zinc flake coatings are non-electrolytically applied and are widely used in high-strength steel fasteners where hydrogen embrittlement is a concern. The product is typically supplied as a dry powder and is compatible with both solvent-borne and water-borne coating systems.
